Now comes another new fact from actor Tom Cruise. This time the story comes from actor Rob Lowe who had co-starred in the film ‘The Outsiders’ in 1983.
In a Podcast interview, Rob said that at the time they had just finished auditioning for the Francis Ford Coppola film and were staying at a hotel in New York.
At that time, there were several actors who escaped and went to New York. They are Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Emilio Eatavez and C Thomas Howell. They also stayed at The Plaza Hotel and chaos ensued when they were about to enter the room.
“It was my first time staying at The Plaza Hotel and we checked in and Tom (Cruise) was just told that we were sharing a room and he was furious,” he said.
Tom, who plays Steve Randle, is said to need more privacy and doesn’t want to live with other people in the room. Rob also admitted that he was quite annoyed with Tom’s behavior at that time, but when he realized that the actor really needed time alone to practice dialogue and prepare his performance he was surprised.
“I remember correctly saying, ‘Wow, this guy is a real actor,'” he said.
Previously, actor Val Kilmer also said the same thing when he co-starred with Tom Cruise.
Val said that Tom is a person who is very focused on that goal. Even when he and the other actors partied after a break from filming, Tom chose to be alone to memorize the lines and rehearse the dangerous scenes he would do.
“Tom does not get along with us, for good reason. From day one, he was a person who focused on one goal, namely to become the best action actor in film history,” he said as quoted by Fox News.
“He wakes up at night to practice dialogue, he spends hours practicing dangerous scenes. His dedication is amazing. Of course, the most proud thing is that he can achieve his target,” he concluded.
